Your drinks stay yours.
Clearline keeps your drinks, your nights, your body details and every estimate on your own devices. We don't collect them, see them or sell them, and there is no account to make. The free app shows one banner ad from Google, and Google never sees any of it either.
- What we collect
- Nothing. Clearline has no account, no analytics and no servers of ours, and makes no network requests of its own.
- What the ad collects
- Google's ad code collects device and usage data to show and measure the banner, as below. It never gets your drinks, weight, sex, age, nights or estimates. Remove Ads takes it away.
- Where your journal lives
- On your iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch, and in your own iCloud once sync is available and on. Never on our servers; we have none.
- How to delete it
- Delete a night or a drink in the Journal, or delete the app to remove everything it keeps on that device.
Who we are
Clearline is made by IndieDeveloperJ LLC ("we", "us"), an independent app developer in Arizona, USA. This policy covers the Clearline apps for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch, their widgets, Live Activity, Siri and Shortcuts actions, and these web pages.
What the app keeps, and where
Everything you put in the app is stored on your device, inside the app's own storage:
- Your body details: your sex, weight, and your height and age if you add them, which the estimate uses. You confirm you're of drinking age at setup; the app keeps only that you did and when.
- Your drinks and nights: each drink's name, kind, size, strength and when you started it, the nights they make up and any note you add, and the drinks you pin.
- Your settings: your units, your country's standard drink and your app icon.
The estimate, the Journal and Stats are worked out on your device from those. The widgets, the Live Activity and the Siri and Shortcuts actions read the same records through storage shared on your device, and your Apple Watch gets tonight's drinks straight from your iPhone. None of it is sent to us.
Apple Health
If you connect Apple Health, Clearline reads your weight so the estimate uses your current weight, and saves each drink you log as Number of Alcoholic Beverages. The estimate is never written to Health. This stays between Clearline and Health on your device. Health data is never used for advertising and never reaches the ad code. Turn it off any time in the Health app.
Apple Intelligence and scanning a label
Scan a Label, and "Add this drink to Clearline" in Visual Intelligence, read a picture of a can, bottle or menu with Apple's on-device recognition. The picture is kept in memory only until you add the drink or close the app, and is never saved or uploaded. Where Apple Intelligence is ready, the note on Stats is written by Apple's on-device model from Stats' own numbers. Nothing is sent anywhere to do either.
iCloud
When iCloud sync is available and turned on, your journal is kept in your own private iCloud database so it appears on your other devices. It is stored by Apple under your Apple Account, and we cannot read it.
The ad
The free iPhone and iPad app shows one banner from Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads, with Google's User Messaging Platform for consent). There are no ads on the Mac, the Apple Watch, in widgets or in the Live Activity, and no full-screen ads. Alcohol, gambling and dating ads are blocked, and ads are capped at a PG rating.
The ad code is walled off from the rest of the app: it is handed nothing about you, your body, your drinks or your estimates, and no keywords, content links or location, and our build checks this on every change. What Google's code collects on its own, according to Google:
- Coarse location: from your IP address, to choose ads for your region.
- Device ID: Apple's advertising identifier if you allow tracking, otherwise an identifier for this app on this device.
- Product interaction and advertising data: such as which ads were shown and tapped.
- Crash and performance data from the ad code.
Google uses this to show the ad, measure it and prevent fraud, under how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. We don't receive it in a form that identifies you.
Tracking and consent
After your first evening, Clearline asks once whether Google may use your advertising identifier to show ads closer to what you like, with iOS's own tracking prompt. Until you allow it, every ad is non-personalized. You can change your mind in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking. Where the law asks for consent first, such as in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Google's consent form asks before any ad loads, and Privacy choices in How it works opens it again.
Permissions the app may ask for
- Camera: to read a drink's label. The photo isn't kept.
- Apple Health: to read your weight and save your drinks, if you connect it.
- Tracking: for personalized ads, as above. Saying no changes nothing else.
Backups and spreadsheets
A backup and the drinks and nights spreadsheets are made on your device and go only where you save or send them. They hold your drinks and body details, so keep them somewhere private.
Purchases
Remove Ads is sold through Apple's App Store. Apple handles payment; we never see your name, card or Apple Account. The app checks the purchase with Apple on your device. Apple gives us sales reports that don't identify you.
When you contact us
If you email us, we receive what you send, including your email address, and use it only to answer you. We keep that correspondence in our email inbox and delete it on request. Please don't send us your journal or health details; we never need them to help.
These web pages
These pages set no cookies, load no web fonts, show no ads and use no analytics. They are served by Cloudflare, which processes basic request data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site, under Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Age
Clearline is rated 18+ and asks you to confirm you're of drinking age where you live before you start. It is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect anyone's personal information, children's included.
Your rights
Because your journal stays on your devices, you already hold it: you can see, export and delete all of it in the app. For anything we hold, which is only email you've sent us, write to us and we'll answer within 30 days, whatever your country or state. For what Google holds from the ad, see Google's privacy policy.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top. If a change affects what the app does with your data, we'll say so in the app's release notes first.
